Every Friday night, every competition weekend, every parade — the largest and loudest ambassador of Doherty pride.

About the band

The Spartan Legion Marching Band is Doherty High School's competitive marching band. Students have the opportunity to try out marching band in May of the current school year at Mini-Camp, and sign commitment forms at the end of Mini-Camp confirming enrollment for the upcoming school year. Once the commitment form is signed and turned in, students may not drop out of marching band. The Spartan Legion performs halftime at all football games, parades in Colorado Springs, and competes in competitions around Colorado. Occasionally, an opportunity may be offered for the Spartan Legion to travel outside of the state or country.

Regular Rehearsals

Regular season rehearsals begin the week immediately after band camp. Attendance is required and part of the student's grade. Rehearsals take place Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4:00–7:00 PM. Occasionally there may be a rehearsal on an irregular day — please check the calendar, and any scheduling irregularities will be communicated in a timely manner. If a student is missing a rehearsal they must notify BOTH band directors and their section leader, and submit an Excused Absence Request Form, found on the BAND App.

Competitions & Parades

The Spartan Legion competes at a number of competitions around Colorado throughout the marching season. Competitions are all-day events that take place on Saturdays, where students perform their field show for a panel of judges and receive a score. Parent volunteers are needed for these events. The Spartan Legion also performs in two parades each year in Downtown Colorado Springs: the Veterans Day Parade (with Doherty ROTC) and the Festival of Lights Parade (with 8th grade students interested in playing).
